Sabine’s bail application adjourned to Wednesday

As we noted in our last post, Sabine’s barrister appeared in court at 9:30 this morning for a bail application. And as we expected, Belinda was present, having left her usual cheering squad of motley fools at home.

Belinda did notify her followers of the court date…a few hours before it started, presumably to ensure that no embarrassing troofer-related faux pas would create a negative impression with the court:

Belinda does paint a very pathetic picture of poor Sabine, whose Nordic ski sticks are not permitted in prison (for obvious reasons—they could easily be turned into weapons).

We won’t get into whether Sabine’s ski poles have a therapeutic benefit to her hip, which was injured 45 years ago, as that is not for us to say. However, we will note that she has been seen jaunting about town quite happily, both with and without the sticks.

As Belinda and others have reported, today’s hearing was adjourned until Wednesday, 2 May.

We do wonder how it could be that the judge “didn’t have time to read the medical reports”. Given Belinda’s claim that the “application only went in yesterday”, is it possible that the reports were not actually delivered to the court in a timely manner?

It seems unlikely that medical reports favourable to granting Sabine bail would have come from a medic within Bronzefield, as Belinda has stated that the prison medical staff are sceptical of the legitimacy of Sabine’s various physical complaints. They have allegedly told her, “We KNOW you can walk!” which doesn’t seem as though it would sway the court in Sabine’s favour.

And yet, if the report comes from Sabine’s own doctor, one wonders how recently he or she has been able to examine Sabine? Would a personal physician be allowed into a prison to examine a patient? It seems unlikely; so are the reports even relevant to her current situation?

We certainly would not want Sabine to be deprived of necessary medical care, but something about Belinda’s description of the situation seems very, very “off”.

As for the “strongly worded” letter of complaint from the German Embassy officials, we should think that if they were annoyed with anyone, it would be their fellow country-woman, who couldn’t be arsed to let them know she was planning to spend the day in bed rather than hobble her way down to the arranged meeting room.
