Westminster’s fifth column pushes the ‘Satanic ritual abuse’ myth

Back in 2002, The Telegraph published an interesting article, titled “The people who believe that Satanists might eat your baby”. The article’s author, Damian Thompson, wrote:

RITUAL satanic abuse is back. Yesterday, a private meeting at Westminster, chaired by Lord Alton, discussed assaults on children by hooded, chanting Satanists. “You may be aware,” the organisers said, “that, for several years, there have been reports of the ritual abuse of children and in some cases ritual murder. The rituals reportedly often involve the Black Mass and the wearing of robes. Adult survivors of ritual abuse are divulging important evidence regarding the large scale of this problem in the UK.”

One of the organisers, Wilfred Wong, an evangelical Christian, is campaigning for ritual abuse to be made a specific crime, so that the Satanists – responsible for “hundreds, if not thousands” of sexual assaults and murders – can be brought to justice. “But so far little has been done,” he says plaintively.

We’ve mentioned Mr Wong here, as the Parliamentary assistant to ex-MP Russell Brown, who co-ordinated another invitation-only meeting at Westminster in 2011, nine years after the one chaired by Lord Alton. While Robert Green, spokes-thingy for the Hollie Greig hoax, was a featured speaker at the 2011 event, the 2002 version featured none other than Dr Valerie Sinason as its main draw.

Writing of the 2002 meeting, John Freedom of the Sub-culture Alternatives Freedom Foundation (SAFF) said,

On Thursday March 21st (The day of the Spring Equinox) Lord David Alton will join forces with long-time Witch-Hunter Valerie Sinason to kick start another Satanic Panic in the U.K. They are hosting a meeting of ‘like-minds’ in the Jubilee Room at the Houses of Parliament about Satanic Ritual Abuse. Thirteen years after Sinason helped create the previous panic she is back again with her obsessive and persistent tales of Satanic Ritual Abuse. Why has David Alton given his support to this new push for medievalism? Because he is a Christian activist who is using his political position to further the interests of the Christian lobby at the expense of pluralism of the U.K.

Mr Freedom points out that Lord Alton “used to write a column for the Catholic Herald and the Catholic Universe. He gave up his seat in Parliament because of the conflict of his beliefs on abortion and that of his party. He was one of the founders of the Christian Movement for Democracy, launched try  to impose ‘Christian Values’ on politics. For a time there he was  seriously moving towards starting a Christian Democratic Party”.

Even earlier than Lord Alton, Russell Brown, Wilfred Wong, and those MPs and lords who attended their various SRA-promoting meetings, there was of course Geoffrey Dickens, who fanned the flames of the Satanic panic until his death in 1995.

SAFF has an entire page dedicated to Mr Dickens, carefully documenting his antics. Here’s a brief excerpt:

After his attack on suspected  child-abusers in Westminster, he turned to berating the Church of England for gay priestly abuse. As a bigoted Christian lay preacher Dickens, an unsophisticated man who saw all beliefs but Christianity as counterfeit, equated the New Age with Satanism. After the shock-value of these earlier campaigns  had  run out of steam he kept the impetus going by jumping on the Satanic Ritual Child Abuse bandwagon.

He turned inevitably, to fringe Christians who had invented the  idea of Satanic Ritual Abuse using horrific images conjured from their sick minds. Dickens was the prime political driver of this myth from 1988 until his death in 1995, and his  only political legacy is that those SRA lies caused this country very dear not only in having to fix his fantasies afterwards with obscenely expensive public enquiries but in social dissension, intolerance, and the victimisation of innocent  people  by the Child Scare Industry which rallied around Dickens to expand its own  remit. …

The Dickens SRA Dossier was just a collection of tittle-tattle unworthy of note. We can say that because we know the people who gave him his unsubstantiated rumours and know that their evidence was faulty. For months Dickens claimed to be sending this dossier to the Home Office. Each time he metaphorically waved it in the air the press would dutifully print that claim as though the evidence for SRA was so convincing it was beyond debate, just like they are doing today with the Westminster Dossier.

The SAFF wrote to the Home Office about this: Their official reply is clear:

“Firstly, as you point out, according to press reports, Mr Geoffrey Dickens MP has sent the Home Secretary a dossier of child abuse cases allegedly connected with witchcraft.  However, this has not been received and the Home Office has no other evidence that there is a problem of the kind Mr Dickens describes.”

Wilfred Wong and the conspiraloons

We heard from Mr Wong most recently in relation to last month’s “Satanic Ritual and Extreme Abuse” event in London, where he joined headline speakers Dr Rainer Kurz, Canadian “regression therapist” Sandra Fecht, and Anne Redelfs, “professional listener” and all-round space cadet.

In addition to his working relationships with people like Dr Valerie Sinason et al, Mr Wong has written for the English Churchman on the topic of SRA. In June 2016, he wrote:

Satanist Ritual Abuse (SRA) exists in Britain and is a growing problem, harming and destroying the lives of an increasing number of children and vulnerable adults because the UK authorities are simply not taking this crime seriously, a conference in London of about 60 Christians heard on Saturday 21 May. The conference was organised by the Christian organisation, the Coalition Against Satanist Ritual Abuse (CASRA), which was founded in February 2014 to provide a permanent UK organisation that campaigns against SRA, conducts research on this issue and publicly exposes it.

The conference was entitled: “Satanist Ritual Abuse – The Battle for Justice”. …

The conference also heard from Robert Green regarding Scotland’s largest known, current SRA case, the Hollie Greig case. Hollie Greig, a young woman with Down’s Syndrome, has identified 23 alleged abusers who subjected her to SRA, including a senior police officer, 2 Head Teachers, 2 Social Workers and a Judge. Greig has described not only experiencing SRA but also witnessing the Satanists ritually sacrificing an adult male.

Attempts by the Scottish authorities to cover up this case have been very vigorous.

Robert Green, who is the leading campaigner in the Hollie Greig case, has been imprisoned in Scotland at least twice, in an attempt to silence him. In the meantime the alleged abusers named by Hollie Greig have never been thoroughly investigated by the Police. For his tireless attempts to obtain justice in the Hollie case, in 2014 Robert Green was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

In the same article, referring to himself in the third person, Mr Wong continued:

Wilfred Wong, who is the Chairman of CASRA and a Child Protection Campaigner with 23 years experience of working on SRA, emphasised at the conference that SRA had to be clearly, publicly and extensively identified in Britain as SRA, and not as anything else. He said that too many attempts were being made by people in Britain to dilute the name of the problem. Some of these attempts were well-intentioned but mistaken, while others had a more sinister objective to further conceal the reality of SRA from public knowledge.

Wilfred emphasised that effective and diligent law enforcement against SRA is crucial. The public have to know more about SRA so that they in turn strongly pressure the UK authorities to fulfil their duty to protect children and vulnerable adults from Satanist Ritual Abusers, by bringing such abusers to justice, instead of simply looking the other way, which is what happens in practice most of the time.

Wilfred Wong says, “There is plenty of evidence that SRA exists in the UK. For example, there are several SRA cases that have been successfully prosecuted in the British courts. Given the very high standards of proof and evidence required in Britain’s criminal courts in order to secure convictions, this is conclusive evidence of the existence of SRA. Unfortunately, for every SRA case that is successfully prosecuted in Britain, there are many, many more that are not because the police refuse to thoroughly investigate them or the prosecuting authorities refuse to prosecute the cases.

SRA not only exists but is an extensive problem because the authorities have allowed it to simply grow unchecked for decades. Jimmy Savile was a Satanist who did SRA and yet except for the Sunday Express, no other mainstream British newspapers have reported on this fact. As usual a combination of indifference and fear helps to protect the Satanist Ritual Abusers in Britain. We should be helping to protect children and vulnerable adults from SRA by clearly and extensively talking about this subject and by putting unrelenting, firm pressure on the UK Government to ensure that thorough and effective law enforcement against Satanist Ritual Abusers is undertaken.”

Mr Wong has also been featured on Brian Gerrish’s UK Column show, from whence he has not only promoted the Hollie Greig hoax, but has backed up Mr Gerrish’s allegations about the Hampstead SRA hoax. On  that show he claimed that some police officers “are known to have made reports to the Metropolitan Police’s Ritual Abuse Unit in the Hampstead case, and found themselves threatened by fellow officers”. Mr Wong stated,

Because of the sheer gravity of the allegations, the very least the police should do is thoroughly investigate them and not prejudge them, and neither should the media. We’re only asking the police to do their job.

Asked how the public can best respond to the alleged growing horror of SRA, Mr Wong recommended that the public must pressure MPs to have SRA exposed. An interesting statement, given Mr Wong’s long-standing association with some of those very MPs.

Probably the best way to describe the relationship between the fundamentalist Christian contingent at Westminster and the conspiraloons, insatiable for anything that might appear to validate their bizarre world-view is that the fundamentalists wind them up, and the conspiraloons do the dirty work.

Actually, now that we think of it, it’s not unlike the relationship between Belinda McKenzie and her minions. In both cases, the wind-up merchants are the ones who walk away unscathed, yet still filled with a comforting sense of moral superiority.

      • He’s a raving mysogynist too. He can’t seem to get through a single sentence about women without referring to them as ‘slags’, ‘whores’ and/or ‘cunts’. I can understand why his wife left him and why she won’t allow him access to his daughter.

        Thank you Malcolm.

        • Oh! He denies this regularly! 🙂 But in truth he was confronted with the facts by a certain D.C. King of Grampian Police, and that’s when his little plot to frame the girl’s grandfather started to become undone. Naturally, this was all perfectly normal behaviour and the rest of the world is evil for pointing it out. 😉 Herr Kinderfänger (a nickname) is very much what our Scottish friends call a “worthy”. Like many of his kind, he thinks everyone else is just as stupid as he is and will believe his stupid tales.

        • Yes Malcolm, please do explain exactly how D.C. King arrived at the conclusion you had been coaching (grooming) your daughter. I recall this is something you actually tell the world yourself, and therefore not something you can try and pretend was made up by anyone else. So some clarification is necessary.

It might also be useful if you would explain exactly what evidence was brought to the court’s attention in this respect? Maybe you could give us your own rational explanation as to why this evidence was in some way wrong or misrepresented? Could you also explain why you accused your ex of being a lesbian and why that’s a bad thing? Again, this is one of the things we can corroborate from the rubbish you published yourself.

Or will you simply rant incoherently for a while about how everyone who points out what you are is a demonic bassa. evil satanist. etc. etc. etc. while simultaneously trying and failing to project all your own faults, fears, wrongdoing and self-loathing onto them?

Oh! And could you please also explain your fascination with fire? I did notice your threat to burn Ms Shaw alive (before you altered it) and have seen you do this sort of thing before. Anything you’d like to tell us? -Before your past catches up with you?

    • PS: who’s up for agreeing never to talk about this creepy attention-seeking twat ever again? EC, maybe you could add him to the proviso line on the comment box (the one that also stipulates the non-mentioning of a certain American arsehole)? Just a thought.

      • You would shoot yourself in the foot with that. Unlike the American, he is not likely to be driven to harming himself by what he reads here, he is simply a criminal con man like others you target here. But he gives much away with his very predictable ranting, effectively putting himself in the frame for certain things. And some day you may find he is actually worthy of a report. This man has much to answer for.

  1. I posted this the other night in response to Justin Sanity’s post re ex MP JH.

I’m going to post it again, in the middle of it all you have Robert Green popping up to tell everyone he has been invited to address the House of Commons?

          • Interesting, Captain…I noticed that everyone (including Mr Hemming) seemed interested that Mr Green was going to be speaking. Mr Hemming enquired as to the timing of the meeting, and said he had a committee meeting at 3:00 that day, but I wasn’t able to make out what he said right afterward (it starts about 15:35, for anyone who doesn’t want to listen to Mr Hemming and host Brian Gerrish drone on).

And as you say, there are some allegations being made in the comments section.

  2. Great research and write-up, EC.

By the way, I vaguely recall David Alton as a controversial figure in the late 80s on account of his aforementioned anti-abortion/pro-life stance. If memory serves, he proposed a bill to reduce the termination cut-off from 28 to 18 weeks and there was quite a lot of backlash over it. (Not taking sides, by the way – just relating what I remember.)

  3. No one living in the UK ever has been, or ever will be, convicted for “satanic ritual abuse” – because there is no such charge in your criminal code statutes.

LOTS of people have been, and will continue to be, convicted of specific sexual offenses against children; Rape of a child under 13, Assault of a child under 13 by penetration, Sexual assault of a child under 13, Causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, Sexual activity with a child, Engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, Causing a child to watch a sexual act, Arranging or facilitating commission of a child sex offence, Sexual communication with a child, Sexual activity with a child family member, Inciting a child family member to engage in sexual activity, etc., which collectively fall under the umbrella term of Child Sexual Abuse.

What Wong and similar satanic panic promoters want, and have been demanding for decades, is for the public, the media and politician from all parties to engage in fear-mongering about imaginary satanic abuse cults by habitually referring to all sexual crimes against children as Satanic Ritual Abuse.
(and for people to stop calling him Little Wong with tiny dong)

  4. I am never sure why there is the obsession with Satanic abuse particularly. Is it not the reality that most child abuse is carried out within the home or by people who are known to the victim and their family? It is also the case I think that most such abuse is sordid, grotesque and somewhat dull.

Abuse is abuse surely? What does it matter if the freak behind it dresses up in strange costumes and pretends to be the böser geist disciple? If you stand against abuse you stand against all abuse!

It seems to me these people seek to create fairy stories as a distraction from the reality of child abuse. they want people to be looking at the buhmann while all the time they creep around in the background themselves abusing children. ~They want to make all real protest about child abuse seem like just the baying of lunatics at the moon and by that means stay undetected themselves.

Only a senior politician such as a Cabinet Minister can so nominate. The rubbish I have seen relating to Green could have been fabricated by anyone. Also, a nomination is not valid until it has been accepted by the Nobel Committee – where exactly is Green’s letter or email of acceptance? I say nowhere because it does not exist!

    • Oh, I would not doubt that for a moment Farmer Giles. So far I have been shown now two pages of a letter from someone who says they are a Parliamentarian, but there is no signature page. and in any case, if you go and read the Nobel Committee’s website, it is very clear what the process is and who may nominate. Only a politician of Cabinet rank may nominate.

      So, I have two put up or shut up challenges for Green’s fraud supporters;

      Name the Parliamentarian and show the signature page;

Provide a clear copy of the acceptance letter.

And, just be aware. Green has been begging for money on the basis of various claims including this. As I understand your laws such a malrepresentation could lead to a charge of obtaining money by deception. Then maybe there is the question of forging parliamentary documents?

Is there only so much allowed in the news that any event would overshadow Paedophillia and Satanism?
I suppose if you believe that god is good and everything bad is down to the devil/satan, then every thing bad is satanic to some degree.

I have been reading parts of a few books lately one which covers Conspiracy theories.
From “A Culture of Conspiracy: Apocalyptic Visions in Contemporary America” by Michael Barkun

      From The Skeptics Dictionary http://skepdic.com/apophenia.html
      apophenia
“Apophenia is the spontaneous perception of connections and meaningfulness of unrelated phenomena.”

“Brugger’s research indicates that high levels of dopamine affect the propensity to find meaning, patterns, and significance where there is none, and that this propensity is related to a tendency to believe in the paranormal.

In statistics, apophenia is called a Type I error, seeing patterns where none, in fact, exist. It is highly probable that the apparent significance of many unusual experiences and phenomena are due to apophenia, e.g., ghosts and hauntings, EVP, numerology, the Bible code, anomalous cognition, ganzfeld “hits”, most forms of divination, the prophecies of Nostradamus, remote viewing, and a host of other paranormal and supernatural experiences and phenomena.”

  6. This is – nearly – a very good post. Might I however try and add an important nuance?

I am, as you know, a fan of your work but there is something a bit off in this post, in part as a result of taking a highly coloured piece of commentary by SAFF at face value. Lord Alton should not, cannot be, bundled in with eg Russell Brown, Wilfred Wong, or indeed the old phoney Geoffrey Dickens. One may agree or disagree with the cause Alton is best known for (abortion law reform) but a swift check will quickly show he is a widely respected, indeed greatly admired, senior public figure. It is appalling to learn that he was once tricked into “chairing” (which can mean little more than arranging for a room booking in the Commons) such a meeting.

I would hope Alton would subsequently have made some kind of statement dissociating himself from nonsense (the writer you quote, Damian Thomspon, was of course Editor of the Catholic Herald, so one can assume Alton would have taken his piece seriously). Even if not, I suspect if someone was to contact Alton now, so long as it was done professionally and without the kind of ranting SAFF indulged in on the occasion you cite (SAFF has done much great work, the quote does them little credit), I suspect he would be more than happy to explain and clarify.

This needed saying, I feel, on behalf of a decent and intelligent man. Whatever Alton’s views on abortion (which are not unusual: as someone said higher up, not taking sides, millions agree with him) he should not be confused with SRA campaigners.

    • Thanks for the critique, Geoff, it’s appreciated. I agree that it’s all too easy to be caught up in rhetoric on either side of this question, but my concerns about Lord Alton stemmed primarily from the fact that he chose to host the 2002 meeting in Westminster, at which a wholly uncritical view of SRA was promoted. If he was somehow tricked into doing so, it would have been useful to know at the time. He commented in the article in The Telegraph that he would keep an “open mind” on the topic, which under the circumstances seems overly generous to me.

Of course, questions such as abortion or end-of-life assistance are deeply personal and a matter of conscience. I wouldn’t dream of holding any invidual’s beliefs against them in a forum such as this, as it’s completely irrelevant to the topic at hand.

However, I find it a matter of concern that those who represent us in Westminster can be so easily swayed by the spurious arguments of the SRA contingent, who have the ability to wreck so many lives with their rabid and bizarre allegations. To your knowledge, did Lord Alton ever repudiate the views expressed at that meeting? I’d be very interested to know if that’s the case.
